Thankful Thursday - Photogs and Event Planners

It's Thankful Thursday time!

Regularly making note of the things you are thankful for can increase your general happiness by 25%! I think that is partially because it makes you focus on the good for a moment, instead of getting caught up in the bad. I also think that when you put good stuff out there...it tends to come back to you. So here is my list of things that I am Thankful for this week...

1) The I ♥ Faces blog. I'm not even sure how I came across this site now. It was one of those things where you click on a link, from a link, from a link and there you go. It is so much fun and right up my alley. I just love having a challenge to do every week. It really inspires me to get taking more photos. Plus, the "Fix It Friday" challenge is fun, too. I love working on the computer in Photoshop. I could take pictures, and play with them, all day long. Fun!

2) The Digital Pro Talk blog. I found out about this blog through, one of my hero's, Scott Kelby. He mentioned it in one of his books as being a cool site to check out. Scott is completely right about everything he ever says so, of course, I had to go see what it was all about. Well, it's like a free course in photography - on-line. I have no idea how David Ziser finds the time to put out such informative and interesting posts every day, but I'm sure glad he does. I've already learned a ton. I just wish I had about a month of free time to just sit and read all his back "issues". I have a lot of catching up to do!

3) The beautiful day we had on Tuesday. Colie and I went on a huge walk and it was just lovely. I even got a bit sunburned. Not that getting sunburned is a good thing, but the fact that it could happen (because it was warm and sunny enough) was good. Very good. We walked and walked and walked. My legs were tired the next day. C'mon summer!

4) That I discovered one of my favourite photographers has a website, and a blog, and she even twitters. I came across some of her work in a photography book I've had for awhile. Every time I saw one of her photos I would say, "Hey, that is so cool" and I'd look up the name of the photographer. It was always her. She's got such a great style that I just love. It just occurred to me the other day that she may be on-line and, indeed she is! So, now, I get to see more of her work and more often. So cool.

5) That I've just been let into the "Jammie Night" clique. The coolest clique on the block. Hosted by the coolest chick on the block (other than me). Thanks Shan for hosting such fabulous events and with such style. {You and I like a theme, don't we?}. Thanks for inviting me.

What are you Thankful for this Thursday?

Thankful Thursday - Getting Flashy!

Hey Kids! It's time once again for Thankful Thursday and if I've finally figured out this whole "schedule your blog posts" thing...I should be out right on time with this one. If so, Shan may just fall right off her computer chair!

Thankful Thursday started as a result of an e-mail message I received one day from the folks at "Wondertime" which explained:

According to research in "Thanks! How the New Science of Gratitude Can Make You Happier", regularly writing down what you're grateful for can increase your level of happiness by about 25 percent. (So can a chocolate martini, but we couldn't find that in the self-help aisle.)

Making a conscious note of the things I have to be grateful for has always been important to me and if that is going to raise my happiness by 25% to boot, then so be it! :)

If you would like to join me in this Thankful Thursday then please write up your Thankful Thursday post (it doesn't matter how many things you list...be it 10, or 5, or 3, or just 1 very special thing) and then sign Mr. Linky below so I can go check out your post, too.

So, here we go...

1) I am very thankful that Dave and the girls made it back from their trip to the States safe and sound. I am a huge worrier and having them on the road for that long (about 5 hours there and back) kept my stomach in knots all day long. They went to see his sister, but since little Colie doesn't have her passport yet (or birth certificate) us two girls just stayed home. I worried - she slept, and ate, and cooed.

2) I was so happy to see them all walk back through the door that I almost forgot about the special package Davey was bringing home for me. My new flash! Well, those who know what they are talking about call it a "strobe" so I'll have to pretend like I know what I'm talking about and call it a strobe, too (or, is it a "speedlight"?). I have already read the entire manual that came with it, but it was kind of like reading about rocket science...in a foreign language...after having had about 2 bottles of wine. Hopefully one day I'll figure out how to use my new toy properly. She sure is a beaut. and I'm very thankful to have it!

3) I continue to be very grateful that spring has arrived. You know how I love the sun and the heat. It is supposed to be about 18 degrees and sunny tomorrow. Three months from now you'd find me complaining about 18 degrees but right now, after a long and very cold/snowy winter, it's like heaven. Colie and I will be going on one big 'ol hike, I'll tell you. I think Davey may even be taking me to the golf course to hit some balls and work on my swing. I can't wait!

4) Purple Onion. I love, love, love purple onion and now that I am trying to eat more healthy food I'm having a lot more salads. The very best salads in the world are the ones Dave makes for me. I'm not sure why, but his salads are always so much better than mine. And, the very best thing about a salad is lots of purple onion on top. You can call it "red onion" if you like, but they are really, actually, purple so that's just what I'm going to continue to call them. That...and yummy!

5) Dave! I've probably said it before, and I'm sure I'll say it again but I am always very, very, grateful for my Davey. He is just the best for so many reasons. The fact that he brings me home toys from the States, he brings me coffees from Timmies all the time (even though he hates coffee and the only reason he has for stopping in is me), and he makes me the very best salads in the whole world. He has also given me my three beautiful daughters and this whole beautiful life we have together. And, not only that, he continues to support me, my dreams, my goals, whole-heartedly. Actually, he not only supports me...he gets excited for me! He is just the greatest guy in the whole world and I love him to bits. You're alright, baby. ;-)

Remember to sign Mr. Linky below and connect me directly to your Thankful Thursday post (not just your blog). I'd be ever so Thankful!! :)

Thankful Thursday - Two Grandmas.

It would seem that Thursdays are an especially busy day around my place. So much so that I haven't been very good about posting my Thankful Thursday posts! I am still very grateful for many, many, things but I just haven't been able to tell you about them. So, I'm going to try out this little "Post date and time" thingy-ma-bobber in blogger and see if I can't get my Thankful Thursday posts out on time, and as regularly scheduled, that way!

{edited to add: well, that didn't work. Seems I switched the "day" and the "month"}

Btw-
this whole project started as the result of an e-mail I received one day from Wondertime magazine which said:

According to research in "Thanks! How the New Science of Gratitude Can Make You Happier", regularly writing down what you're grateful for can increase your level of happiness by about 25 percent. (So can a chocolate martini, but we couldn't find that in the self-help aisle.)

A 25 percent increase in my own personal happiness?! Sounded good to me. Shan over at Tales from the Fairy Blogmother challenged me to make Thankful Thursday a weekly event but, being the excellent and outstanding (keener) blogger that she is, she has been posting her lists of gratitude far more often that I have. I'm going to try and change that.

So, let's get to it already!

1) I am thankful that the big chunk of change that we laid down for cloth diapers was not in vain. I was really worried that they just would not work out and Dave would have the opportunity to give me the big "I told you so" lecture. But, they are great! They don't leak any more than "landfill diapers" do (in fact, I think they are better), and they are definitely better at handling the big, explosive, kinda' poops. Plus, they are better for the environment. Better for baby's skin. And, most important of all...they are darn cute. {my review on them all will be coming up soon...}

2) I am thankful that it is now April which means winter is gone, baby! I'm not a fan of winter. I do not do well in the cold. At all. There have already been a few really, really, nice days where you could walk around outside in just a light jacket. Love it! Bring on the heat.

3) I am grateful for my sweet baby who is now, consistently, sleeping through the night. I feed her one last time before bed and she is pretty much good to go (to sleep!) until about 6 in the morning. So nice!

4) I am grateful that my mom has agreed to come up on Saturdays (while Dave and the girls are at ballet class) to sit and hold the little, cuddle-bug, Nicole Lily-Pie which allows me a block of a couple of hours to get stuff done around the house. Now, 2 hours per week is not enough to get this place in order (I usually just get all the laundry taken downstairs, clean up the kitchen and one bathroom, clean out bun-bun's cage, and that's about it), but it sure helps. Thanks Mom!

5) I am grateful that Dave's mom loves to take the girls on little outings. They have been many fun places together and it looks like Disney on Ice is becoming one of their regular trips. They've been before, but I'm not sure if they had seats this good! Right by the ice! Way to go Grandma K and thanks!

What are you Thankful for this Thursday?

Please sign Mr. Linky below so we can go check-out your list. I'd be very grateful! ;-)

Thankful Thursday - Spider Monkey

It's time for Thankful Thursday. I started to list what I was grateful for on Thursdays because of a little newsletter I received by e-mail one day that explained to me...

According to research in Thanks! How the New Science of Gratitude Can Make You Happier, regularly writing down what you're grateful for can increase your level of happiness by about 25 percent. (So can a chocolate martini, but we couldn't find that in the self-help aisle.)

So, if you'd like to get happier, too...please feel free to make a little list of your own and let me know about it by signing Mr. Linky below so I can go check it out! Here's mine:

1) Health: I am grateful that the horrible tummy virus (I believe it is norovirus) that is going around these here parts has passed me by (knock wood). My little Jamie James may have gotten it because she came into our bed one night a week or so ago and proceeded to vomit all over our duvet. It is so horrible to watch your kid get sick, isn't it? Such a feeling of helplessness coupled with panic and anticipation as you watch to see if this "thing" is going to get better or worse. Luckily, she quickly got better and when Dave got it next it was relatively mild. I know the Fairy Blogmother has been hit by it at her house and I hope they are all feeling back to normal soon.

2) My Baby Can Still Eat with a Cold: This has always been a big fear of mine - my baby getting a cold while she is nursing. I worry that when she is so stuffed up she won't be able to eat. I mean, how could she? But, luckily, despite the fact that she is all stuffed up it seems that, somehow, every time she goes to eat her sinus passages magically open up. She starts eating and within seconds the little wheezing, I'm trying to suck some air in, sound is gone and she is fine. I think this may be why she has gone back to eating every 2 hours (at the most) all day and all night (zzzzzz) - just so she can breathe and feel better/comforted. But, I won't complain (except to maybe mention that I am so tired) because I am just very grateful that she is still able to eat.

3) Rocky Road Ice Cream: Can you believe I've never tried this before in my life? Dave brought it home from the grocery store and it is so good. Little chunks of nuts and chocolate with chocolate and vanilla ice cream swirled together. It looks so pretty and tastes even better. Of course, I was trying to stop with the snacking on junk food every night before I go to bed thing (trying to be a Fit Mama here, Davey, remember?) but since that ice cream came along it's been tough. I may have just put another inch back on my waist. So, I'll have to tell him to stop buying it. But, it is good. And, I will just be grateful to have tried it. lol.

4) My Treadmill: speaking of the above...Yes, I went on that lovely walk last Friday and I felt fantastic for it. But, you know what, the weather turned bitterly cold and viciously windy ever since. I'm sorry, I can't do the cold. I just can't. So, I'm grateful that I do have a lovely treadmill sitting downstairs (covered in dust) that I can use to start getting back in shape. If only I could find the desire to go down and use it.

5) The Promise of Spring: That one nice day last week was really a thrill. How nice to be walking around outside and not freezing your butt off (although, that might be a quicker way to achieve my goal). And, right now, as I sit and gaze out my window, it is a lovely-looking sun-shiny day. Although, the temperature is only 2 degrees with a windchill of probably minus 20...the promise of nicer days is certainly there. You can just feel it. I am very eager for the warmer weather and I promise to get back out there as soon as it comes. In the meantime, I'll try to make the effort to go dust off my treadmill. No, really.

Bonus Thankful Thursday moment: I'm so grateful for these moments when little Lily-Pie does her best impression of a spider monkey on top of her daddy. This is her absolute favourite position to be in. She is so comfy-cozy like this and it is so adorable!

Thankful Thursday is back, baby!

Well, I think it's time to get back on track with "Thankful Thursday"! After all...regularly noting the things that you are grateful for can increase your overall happiness by 25%. I have no idea how "they" came up with that figure, but it makes sense to me. So, here are some things that I am Thankful for on this Thursday!

1) High Speed Internet Access!!
Yay!! It seemed like it would never be available to this area (which, in fact, is not so very far out of the way at all - but, still, getting high speed out here just seemed like an impossible task for so long for some reason). When we told the young man working at the store that we were on dial-up and that cost about $20 per month he said, in complete seriousness..."They charge you for that?". So funny. So sad. Dial-up should really be free because it is so horrible to deal with. I am so glad for the high-speed. I can surf around like crazy now and downloading scrapbook papers, etc., no longer takes two days. It's fantastic.

2) My New Laptop Computer.
It is so nice being able to speed around the internet from anywhere in the house! I don't have to go downstairs to the cold, drafty, office anymore. It is really nice down there when we have a fire going, but otherwise it is really just kind of...a basement. Now I can be upstairs, on the couch, in bed...wherever. Incredible. I feel like we've really caught up with the times...finally. That same man that sold us our high-speed access sold us our laptop. When we left the store he smiled and said, "Welcome to the modern ages". Thank-you. Thank-you very much.

3) My Bamboo Graphic Tablet.
Okay, now this is just getting silly! How lucky can one computer-addicted gal get? Davey bought me this little toy as a surprise present. It is the greatest thing. If you haven't seen one, it is like a little pen that "writes" on it's own little tablet. You can use it instead of a mouse to (much more easily) zoom around your computer pages...but more than this you can also use it to write, to draw, to color...etc. This makes it absolutely fantastic for digital scrap booking. I lerve it.

4) The Food Network.
I'm so glad their programming is on all night so that when I am up from 3 am until 4:30 am feeding and burping little baby-one I can at least watch the Iron Chefs battling it out, or Alton Brown explaining all that you can do with a ginger root, or that one young student chef smashing up his place in a drunken rage. It really helps to keep my eyes open while Davey snores away beside me. ;-)

5) Baby-One.
A.K.A. Nicole Lily-Pie. My little sweetie. The one for whom I don't even mind being up from 3 am until 4:30 am . She is such a great baby. She is so cute, and so cuddly, and so good natured. She really doesn't complain much at all - except when she realizes that, Hey, Wait a minute here...no one is holding me...C'mon people...Hold Me. She will be 6 weeks old tomorrow and she has never cried for more than, say, 30 seconds. Just the amount of time it takes us to realize we need to change her, or feed her, or - ya - pick her up. Then she is quiet again. So easy-going! And, yesterday she had another check-up with the doctor and we got to weigh her and find out that she has gone from her 6 lbs., 9.5 oz. birth wait -- to her 6 lbs., 4 oz. discharge weight (they were so concerned about her losing weight...but I knew she'd be fine as soon as we got out of there) -- to her current weight of 10 lbs, 2 oz., which is actually above average now! Yay! Little porker. I knew you'd put on the pounds!

We are very, very, lucky to have her (and all our girls)! So, I'll be thankful for her ~every~ week...but I just had to give her props today, `cuz, y'know...she's new and all.
;-)

{Picture taken just moments ago as my little Ten-Pounder heads out the door with Daddy and big sister Jamie for a little truck ride. What does that look mean?? Is she sick of me taking her picture already?? } ;-)

I don't think I'll be able to get Mr. Linky back up today, but if you'd like to raise your level of happiness by 25% then, please, make a list of your own and leave me a comment so I can go see what you are Thankful for on this Thursday.

Thankful Thursday

Well, I do believe the Fairy Blogmother has challenged me? Dared me? Double-dog dared me? to start hosting Thankful Thursdays here at The Mommy Project. I think she thinks this will encourage me to be a more consistent blogger, perhaps. Yes, I can see right through your mommy-nature Mrs. Blogmother. So, I take up your challenge! Now...let's just see if I can figure out how to work all the widgets and linky's and whatever the heck else I need to make this work {Hey! As a side note...apparently "Thankful Thursday" isn't my idea. When I went to set up my Mr. Linky code there was already one there for "Thankful Thursday". Hmmm. Hope that's okay. Jeez...whenever I have a lightbulb moment it seems that lightbulb has already gone off above someone else's head. Ah well...).

So, here is my list of 5 things I am Thankful for this Thursday:

1) My bed. I love my bed. You may remember it is fairly new. It was a surprise from my darling hubby, Davey. It is huge and squishy and, as Little Miss Muffet may have said, "Just Right". I've always enjoyed bedtime (perhaps more than I should) and now that I am preggers and I have a little kiddo, literally, kicking me in my lower left ribs several times a day and just, generally, tuckering me out, I'm loving my bed even more. I love to get into my bed, turn on my reading light, and start into one of the 20-30 books I have on my bedside table. Unfortunately (or, fortunately...) I never get passed a page or two because before you know it, it's 4 in the morning and I'm getting up to go pee. Good thing Davey turns off my reading light for me every night.

2) Books. I love books. I love, love, love, any sort of craft book. I've learned all about stained glass arts, jewelry making, bead making, candle making, wreath making, soap making (bars and liquid), scrapbooking (paper and digital), pillows, quilting, knitting, loom knitting, photography, kids crafts, crafts for pets, crafts for babies, jeez...just about everything you can think of, I've "studied it". One day I will put my love of all things crafty to use. One day. But, until then I will just say that I am thankful for all my great books and also for...

3) The Public Library System. I cannot even believe that I can just go on the internet, do a search for whatever book I want, and they will kindly send my books to the most convenient local library of my choice. All for free. How great is that? Now, sometimes they don't have the book I really, really, want and, rarely, there may be a bit of a line forming under the "requests" function but for a completely free service it is unbelievable. Often I will find I love the book so much I just have to have my own copy and then I turn to my on-line shopping cart at Chapters (to whom I am also grateful for their free and speedy shipping). But, for today, my shout-out of gratefulness is to the Library.

4) My fireplace. I am so lucky that I have a house with a fireplace. There is nothing better than snuggling up on the couch, with my legs up on Davey's lap, reading one of my many craft books, in front of the hot, crackling, fire. Dave wants to change it over to gas and I guess that will be okay, too, but I sure do love a real fire. It is so pretty and so nice and I am really thankful to have it.

5) Davey. I am very thankful for Davey. He is the best. He is such a great father and he is so involved with his girls. He does so much for them (too much, at times...I think), and a lot for me too. He is just always willing to "do stuff" for us. He used to always run to Tim Hortons every morning to get me a coffee...and he doesn't even drink coffee. He would go all that way just for me. He lets me put my huge, heavy, legs on top of him every night when we sit in front of our fire. He always helps me get my huge, heavy, butt off that couch at the end of the night -- he always, always, always, comes over with his hand out to help me up (actually, he does that even when I'm not pregnant). If there is ever something we really want...he'll get it for us. Even if it isn't always terribly practical or very cheap (my new mixer, my new food processor, my glass grinder...). He works very, very, hard for a living and I definitely appreciate that he works that hard for us, his family. His girls. He is a really pretty special, wonderful, guy and I am very, very, thankful for him. Love you, Davey. xo.

And that's my Thankful Thursday list of 5. What's yours??

Thankful Thursday.

Everyday I get e-newsletters in my "mailbox". I don't even know how I managed to sign myself up for all these little notices, but some of them are pretty good. I always like getting the FamilyFun ones, the Beading ones (even though I haven't done any beading in ages - it's still fun to dream), and the pregnancy (i.e. "This week in your pregnancy...") ones. Dave pretty much just likes it when something new from Victoria's Secret rolls in. Although, he is a bit devastated right now as his favourite girl seems to have gone missing. Maybe she got too old. She probably turned 23, or something. Poor thing. Anyway, today I got something from Wondertime which is a fairly new magazine about parenting with thoughts on child development, recipe ideas, activities, that sort of thing. It said:

According to research in Thanks! How the New Science of Gratitude Can Make You Happier, regularly writing down what you're grateful for can increase your level of happiness by about 25 percent. (So can a chocolate martini, but we couldn't find that in the self-help aisle.)

Okay, i'm game. And since I can't have the chocolate martini (but, man, that does sound good) I'll go ahead and post 5 things I'm grateful for. I'd say this could be "Thankful Thursday" or something like that...but I tend not to ever stick to any of those sort of bloggy schedules (as much as I'd really like to). My pal Shan over at the Fairy Blogmother is the disciplined one, not me. Anyway...

Five Things I'm grateful for This Week:

1) I'm done work. Thank you baby Jesus.

2) I was kept up for an hour and a half last night by this kid inside of me kicking up a frickin' storm. How wonderful is that?

3) I just love my little family - they are all really pretty special people and I'm so lucky to have them.

4) My new truck. So nice. And so much less embarrassing to drive than my wagon was.

5) My friends. My oldest friend in the world who I hardly ever get to see, but who I know I could call up anytime and she would be there if I needed her. I've known her since I was not much older than Maddie. Incredible!

My distant friends who I hardly ever get to see, but who I still hold dear in my heart (one of them has a blog of her own, so that helps me to keep in touch with her life and keeps her in touch with mine. She is a really amazing person and and she has been so much support to me over these past few weeks, she'll never even know). The other one is a serious procrastinator and is beginning to tick me off, but I love her anyway.

My bloggy friend, and neighbour, who is much cooler than she even realizes (doncha' just love women like that?) and is one of the best moms I've ever known. She and I are destined for a rockin' night of debauchery one of these days...I can just feel it.

And, my "work" friends...some of which I don't actually even work with anymore, others left my work and then convinced me to come follow them. They're all the ones that you had so much fun with, you just can't put them behind you. You know?

Oh, and a special mention here to my "multi-tasking" friend...my former co-worker, my current co-worker, my match-maker, and my SIL. She's is such a wonderful person that you end up liking her despite the fact she used to model (and still could, except she is too busy being a total brainiac on top of it all).

Thanks to all of you for being who you are.

And...that will close out this week's (lol) Thankful Thursday.
If you wanna play along...let me know. I'd love to see your list.

Wanna see some pics of some of those friend's cute babies?
