The Pox

So, as some of you may know, last week...this was Maddie. Yep, The Pox (the poultry sort) is going through her school like gang-busters. I had decided not to get the girls vaccinated for this because, as otherwise perfectly healthy little girls, I came to the opinion that there were more risks than benefits associated with getting the needle. From what I've read, the immunization doesn't actually even protect your child for life from getting the Chicken Pox...the only thing that can do that is...getting the Chicken Pox {please remember these are my opinions based on my research and nothing more. I totally understand that this vaccine is very helpful and important to the preventative health care of other children}.So, anywho, was there a part of me that was pretty much hoping they would get the Chicken Pox? Yes. I mean, I did not purposely expose my girls to the virus (and I had the chance to do that a couple of times. Once when my brother's kids got it, and then another time when my friend's little girl got it). I just couldn't bring myself to give them a disease. But, I was hoping...in a way...that they would get it...while they were young. Of course, I also wanted them to have no complications from having the disease...have a nice, easy-peasy, time of it...and then have life-long immunity. So, fortunately, that went right according to plan for Maddie. She got the Pox, and got over it, like a Champ. She didn't even really feel sick! And now, right on schedule...10 days later...It's Jamie's turn.
And, thankfully, she is dealing with it just fine, too. Of course...she likes to play it up a bit. This is the only time she gets to have Ginger Ale. Poor baby. So sick...do you need a little bit of Ginger Ale? I really, really, really, really, hope that if Colie catches this...10 days from now...she has as easy a time of it as her big sisters. So many hard decisions to make as a Mom.

Poor Mommy.

My two older girls (6 and 4) just went outside to play. I asked the 4 year old if she had to go "potty" before she left. She laughed at me and rolled her eyes and said, "Paahh-teee!??!".

Oh. Sorry. Do you have to use the ladies room before you leave?
-I asked in my best proper-British accent.
{sigh}.

And guess where the baby (6 months) slept last night? In her crib. All night. That was the first time. I won't tell you what precipitated her sudden move to the crib {I would loose way too many good Mommy points if I told you that one...}, but lets just say I feel much better about her sleeping somewhere that is surrounded by bars that, um, hold her in.

But, my baay-bee...

She slept just fine without me. She even slept-in a little bit this morning.

Maddie (the 6 year old) wants to change the toy-room downstairs into her own bedroom. She doesn't care if it is downstairs. She doesn't mind. She isn't scared to be off by herself. She wants her own space.

I think I need to get pregnant again.

Widney Wednesday - Canada Style, eh?

Well, I've been a huge fan of Widney Woman for awhile now and I think her Widney Wednesday's are just amazing. The amount of time and effort she puts into creating these special nights for her kids, and for her friends, to enjoy is just incredible and very inspiring (I'm really going to try and start doing something similar soon). If you haven't checked it out yet, you just have to! She's incredible. Not to mention, she is my friend. We go way back. Waaaayyy back. And while she does live in the U.S. of A. now I am very fortunate to still be in touch with her through her blog. I felt like I knew her kids before I even got to meet them. But, last night I did get to meet them: for the very first time...in person. That is because I was lucky enough to participate in a Widney Wednesday when it went Canadian (Mrs. Widney came back to town for a visit!!).

Her theme was "Widney Dairy" in honour of a local ice-cream store that is a bit of a fixture around these parts. She had a little craft center all set up for the kids complete with construction paper, markers and crayons, scissors, glue, and tape. The kids had a blast creating their own Widney Popsicles which they got to take home. After craft time they began playing volleyball with some of the ice cream balloons and had so much fun just running around together. It was so adorable to see how they all became just instant pals: Widney Woman's kids, The Fairy BlogMother's kids, and The Mommy Project's kids. Too cute.

After a little cardiovascular exercise it was time to reward themselves at the Widney Dairy Ice Cream Bar. Widney Woman had it all prepared with lots of different toppings for the kids to choose from: Smarties, M&M's, Malteasers, Gummy Bears, and Sprinkles of every size and color. Of course, most of the kids decided to put a little of everything on their Sundaes and they all thought it was the best ice cream ever.

Sadly, our evening at the Widney Dairy came to and end all too soon. I think Widney Woman will just have to come back to Canada more often. We miss her here...and now our kids will, too!
